Floor Grinding & Polishing Machines

Professional floor grinding and polishing machines for concrete preparation, surface flattening, coating removal, paint removal, terrazzo restoration, stone restoration and polished concrete systems.

At AK Surface Solutions, we supply LAVINA grinding and polishing machines for contractors who need reliable equipment for demanding floor preparation and polishing work. These machines are designed for professional use on concrete, terrazzo, natural stone and other hard floor surfaces.

A planetary grinder is one of the best options for most floor preparation, grinding and polishing jobs because it gives a more even cut, better control and a more consistent scratch pattern across the floor.

The machine itself provides the movement and power, but the result depends on choosing the correct tooling for the job. The same planetary grinder can be used for floor preparation, surface flattening, coating removal, glue removal, paint removal and concrete polishing when fitted with the right tools.

Our current LAVINA machine range includes LAVINA GRINDER L20S7 & L20OS7 and LAVINA L25S7 & L25LS7.

We can also advise on compatible LAVINA Diamond Tools, including metal bond diamonds, PCD tools, carbide scrapers, transition tools, copper pads, resin pads and polishing pads for different stages of floor preparation and polishing.

Floor Grinding Machine FAQs

Why choose LAVINA?

LAVINA is one of the leading names in concrete grinding and polishing machinery. The brand is especially well known in the USA, where it is widely used by professional polished concrete and surface preparation contractors.

LAVINA machines are designed for demanding floor preparation, concrete grinding, coating removal, terrazzo restoration and polished concrete systems.

For contractors, the main benefit is that LAVINA offers a complete system of grinders, dust extractors and diamond tooling, helping achieve more consistent results across different stages of the job.

What type of grinder do I need to flatten a concrete surface?

To flatten a concrete surface, remove high spots or correct uneven areas, you will usually need a planetary floor grinder with suitable metal bond diamond tools.

A planetary grinder gives better control, smoother operation and a more even scratch pattern than a basic single-disc machine. This is especially important when preparing concrete for polishing, coatings, sealers or further refinement.

For smaller areas, residential work and medium-size projects, the LAVINA GRINDER L20S7 & L20OS7 is a compact professional option. For larger areas, higher productivity and heavier grinding work, the LAVINA L25S7 & L25LS7 gives more coverage and output.

The correct diamond bond and grit are just as important as the grinder itself. Hard concrete, medium concrete and soft concrete all require different metal bond diamonds to cut properly.

Why use a planetary grinder for concrete polishing?

A planetary grinder is the best option for most concrete polishing projects because it produces a consistent cut and a more even finish across the floor.

The planetary head movement helps keep the machine stable, reduces visible grinding marks and improves the scratch pattern through each stage of the polishing process.

For polished concrete, the goal is not just to make the floor shiny. The surface must be refined correctly at each stage so the final finish has clarity, depth and consistency.

Which LAVINA machine should I choose?

Choose the machine based on the size of the jobs you normally carry out, the type of work you do and the power supply available on site.

The LAVINA GRINDER L20S7 & L20OS7 is a compact professional grinder suitable for smaller to medium-size projects, residential floors, surface preparation, polishing and jobs where access and manoeuvrability are important.

The LAVINA L25S7 & L25LS7 is better suited to larger areas, commercial floors and contractors who need higher productivity from a wider grinding path.

What tools should I use for floor preparation, paint removal or coating removal?

The correct tooling depends on what you need to remove from the floor and how thick or strongly bonded the material is.

For floor preparation, paint removal and thinner surface coatings, carbide scrapers or PCD tools with scarifying bars can be a good option, depending on the coating and floor condition.

For thicker coating removal, PCD tools without scarifying bars are usually a better choice because they are more aggressive and can remove heavier build-up more effectively.

For general concrete preparation, adhesive residue, surface laitance or light contamination, metal bond diamonds may be more suitable.

If you are unsure which tooling to use, contact AK Surface Solutions before ordering. We can help you match the correct LAVINA tooling to the coating, floor condition and machine.

Do I need a grinder or a polisher?

For concrete floor preparation, flattening, coating removal, aggregate exposure and polished concrete systems, you need a floor grinder.

A polisher or rotary machine may be suitable for light maintenance, cleaning, buffing or applying finishing products, but it will not replace a professional planetary grinder when the surface needs to be cut, levelled or mechanically refined.

If the floor needs proper preparation or concrete polishing, start with the correct grinder and diamond tooling.

Can I use a rotary machine to polish concrete?

A rotary machine can be useful for some cleaning, maintenance and finishing work, but it is not the best machine for full concrete polishing or surface flattening.

Concrete polishing normally requires a professional planetary grinder because the surface needs to be mechanically cut and refined through controlled diamond stages.

A rotary machine may help with maintenance or final finishing products, but it should not be treated as a replacement for a concrete grinder.

What diamond tools do I need with a LAVINA grinder?

The diamond tools depend on the concrete hardness, surface condition and finish required.

For initial grinding, flattening and scratch removal, metal bond diamonds are normally used. AK Surface Solutions supplies LAVINA Diamond Tools, including metal bonds, PCD tools, transition tools, copper pads, resin pads and polishing pads.

As a general guide, metal bonds are used for the early grinding stages, PCD tools and carbide scrapers are used for floor preparation and coating removal, transition tools help remove metal scratches, and resin or polishing pads are used for later refinement and polishing stages.

How do I choose the right metal bond diamond?

The correct metal bond depends on the hardness of the concrete.

Soft concrete normally needs a harder bond to stop the tools wearing too quickly. Hard concrete normally needs a softer bond so the diamonds stay exposed and keep cutting. Medium concrete needs a balanced bond.

Choosing the wrong bond can lead to slow cutting, glazing, excessive tool wear or poor scratch removal. If you are unsure, AK Surface Solutions can help you select the correct LAVINA diamond tools for your concrete.

Can LAVINA grinders be used for stone and terrazzo restoration?

Yes. LAVINA grinders can be used for concrete, terrazzo and some stone restoration work when fitted with the correct diamonds, pads and polishing system.

Terrazzo and stone require careful tooling selection and the correct process to avoid unnecessary scratches or uneven results. The machine, diamond sequence and polishing method should be chosen based on the material and desired finish.

Do you provide advice before buying a machine?

Yes. AK Surface Solutions provides practical guidance on machine choice, tooling, diamond grit sequence, concrete hardness, floor preparation, polishing systems and maintenance.

All machines are supplied with a manufacturer’s guarantee, and AK Surface Solutions can also support customers with servicing in the UK.

We recommend contacting us before ordering so we can help match the machine and tooling to the type of work you carry out.
