Water-Based Impregnating Sealer for Natural Stone

Faber Hidro SST is a ready-to-use, 100% water-based impregnating sealer designed to protect natural stone against rising humidity, staining agents, salt efflorescence, rust and damp-related yellowing. It penetrates through the stone without forming a surface film, preserving the material’s appearance and breathability.

The treatment can be applied before or after installation. Pre-installation application allows the faces and edges (or all six sides by immersion) to be treated for more complete protection against moisture ingress. Hidro SST can also be used after tiles or slabs have been installed, provided the surface is clean and as dry as possible.

How to Apply Before Installation

• Apply an even layer to the top and edges of the slab or tile using a brush, roller, lambswool applicator or immersion method.
• After 5–10 minutes, and before the product dries, redistribute any surface residue evenly.
• Wait 1–2 hours before moving the slabs to treat the underside using the same method.
• Remove dry residue with a white pad or damp cloth before packing or before laying on site.
• Wait 24 hours after treatment before installing the tiles or slabs.

Six-Side Immersion Treatment

Fill a suitable container and immerse one tile at a time for 10–15 seconds. Immediately redistribute the residue with a clean cloth. Full six-side treatment requires a high-quality adhesive or mechanical fixing.

How to Apply After Installation

• Remove existing yellowing where necessary and ensure the surface is clean and as dry as possible.
• Apply an even layer using a brush, roller or lambswool applicator.
• After 5–10 minutes, redistribute residues before they dry.
• Remove residue using a white pad or damp cloth. A single-disc machine may be used for residue removal on larger areas.
• Apply a second coat on highly absorbent surfaces.
• Allow approximately 24 hours for the treatment to become fully dry and protect the surface from water or moisture during this period.

Industrial Application

Hidro SST is suitable for production-line application using sprinkler systems, silicone rollers or other industrial tools. Application must be followed by residue removal using brushes or pads.

Important Application Notes

Do not allow application residue to dry on the surface, as dried residue can be difficult to remove. Redistribute it after 5–10 minutes while still wet. If residue has already dried, apply fresh Hidro SST to a clean cloth or white pad and use it to dissolve and remove the residue.

Pre-installation treatment is preferred for maximum rising damp protection. When treating all six sides, use a high-quality adhesive or mechanical fixing. Protect newly treated surfaces from water and moisture for approximately 24 hours.
