Product Overview

PROTEX WB is a ready-to-use, water-based penetrating sealer for natural stone. It protects against staining agents and rising humidity, including associated problems such as rust, yellowing, flaking, salts and efflorescence.

The treatment penetrates the material without creating a surface film, preserving its original breathability. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and can be used before installation or on stone that has already been laid.

Application Guidance

Surface preparation

• Clean the surface carefully and remove all dust and dirt.
• Do not apply to wet surfaces. Slightly humid surfaces may be treated, but the material should be as dry as possible.
• Apply at a surface temperature between +5°C and +40°C.
• Do not apply to excessively heated surfaces.
• Protect adjacent surfaces that are not being treated.
• Allow adhesive or grout on recently installed surfaces to dry completely before application.
• Always carry out a preliminary test on an unexposed area or unused piece of material.

Pre-installation treatment

Apply an even layer over the required faces of the slab or tile. After approximately 5–10 minutes, before the product dries, distribute any surface residue using a roller, lambswool applicator or brush. Continue working the residue until it has been eliminated, as dried residue can be particularly difficult to remove.

When treating all six sides, begin with the top and edges. Allow approximately 1–2 hours for these areas to dry before moving the slabs or tiles and treating the bottom in the same way.

Six-sided treatment can also be completed by immersion. Immerse one tile at a time for approximately 10–15 seconds, then immediately spread the remaining product over the surface with a clean cloth.

• For treatment on all six sides, use a high-quality adhesive or mechanical fixing when installing the material.
• For treatment on the top and edges only, use a medium-high-quality adhesive.
• Where the top and edges are treated with PROTEX WB and a different treatment is used on the bottom, installation may use a medium-low-quality adhesive or a simple cement-mortar mix.

Wait at least 24 hours before laying treated tiles or slabs. Once laid, they can be opened to foot traffic.

Post-installation treatment

Apply an even coat over the entire surface. After approximately 5–10 minutes, before it dries, distribute residues with a roller, lambswool applicator or brush. Remove remaining residue with a white pad or damp cloth. For larger areas, a single-disc machine fitted with a white pad may be used.

On more absorbent surfaces where the product is absorbed without leaving residue, a second coat is recommended. The product dries completely in approximately 24 hours and must be protected from water and moisture during this period.
